Two people were killed in opposition shooting in the Kaptai Gorjnia area of Rangamati. The incident took place at 3pm on Tuesday (November 10) in the Gorjnia area of Wagga Union in upazila. Nasir Uddin, the police officer in charge of Kaptai, confirmed the incident.
The deceased were identified as Subhash Tanchangya, 45, and Dhananjay Tanchangya, 32.
The OC said the unidentified terrorists came to Dhananjay Tanchanga’s home, woke him up, shot him and Subhash and fled. They died on the spot. There are two bullet marks on the body of the late Subhash and five marks on the body of Dhananjay Tanchangya.
According to local sources, the victims were supporters of the Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS) led by the regional Santu Larma party. When contacted by the Bengali Tribune to discuss the matter, no one was found.
Meanwhile, police personnel, including the OC from Kaptai Police Station, came to the scene on Wednesday morning, recovered the body and sent it to Rangamati Hospital for autopsy. Currently, the situation in the area is tense.
Additional Police Superintendent Junaid Kausar of Kaptai Circle said the attack was initially thought to have been carried out by armed terrorists who opposed the hill.
