Russia sent 2,000 soldiers, 90 tanks and 360 vehicles to Nagorno-Karabakh. Starting Wednesday, the Russian military will be there as a peacekeeping force throughout the region. On Monday, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia signed a peace agreement in Nagorno-Karabakh. The agreement states that, for the time being, the Russian military will be responsible for establishing peace in the entire region.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that Russia, as well as Turkey, would take responsibility for establishing peace in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. In fact, neither Armenia nor Azerbaijan have been at war since Monday’s agreement. Azerbaijan welcomed Monday’s agreement and saw it as a victory. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on Tuesday that the people of Azerbaijan had been waiting for this day for a long time. On the other hand, protests have started in Armenia since Tuesday. Ordinary people are expressing their discontent over why the government accepted this deal. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also said Tuesday that he had to accept the deal with all his heart.

Armenia’s conflict with Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh since the 1990s. At that time, some 30,000 people died in the war between the two sides. Although the war was stopped, the debate did not stop. Internationally, Nagorno-Karabakh is part of Azerbaijan, but is inhabited by Armenians. For a long time, separatist groups have run virtually independent governments. Armenia has helped them. Against this, Azerbaijan began to fight again. There has been a fierce battle between the two parties for the past six weeks. Both sides have suffered casualties.

Russia and the United States have tried three times before to end the war. The two countries have met. There was an agreement, but the war did not stop. Even with Monday’s agreement, many had the idea that the war would not end in the end. But neither side met on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. The Russian army has arrived in the area.

According to experts, the agreement really benefited Azerbaijan. That’s right, this is where the recent war came from. Azerbaijan has occupied the most important areas of Nagorno-Karabakh in recent days. Along with the capital, Susha is now in their power. As a result, they have benefited more from the deal. The agreement also states that Armenia will gradually cede the land of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Protests against the deal have been raging in Armenia since Tuesday. People constantly protest in front of government offices. Many also speak of breaking the agreement and attacking again. However, experts believe that this is no longer possible after Russia has deployed troops to the area.
