Police arrested another man in three cases filed in connection with the beating and burn death of Abu Yunus Mohammad Shahidunnabi Jewel in Burimari in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat. A total of 32 people were arrested in the three cases presented in the incident. The police sent him to the Lalmonirhat court at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
The detainee is Afinur Rahman (23). He is a resident of Namajipara, District 3 of the Burimari Union of the Upazila. He was arrested Monday night.
On the night of October 29, Abu Yunus Mohammad Shahidunnabi, a resident of the Shalban area of Rangpur, was beaten and burned to death for insulting the Holy Quran in the Burimari Mosque. On October 31, his cousin Saiful Alam, Patgram (SI) Police Station Deputy Inspector Shahjahan Ali and Burimari Union Parishad (UP) President Abu Saeed Newaz Nishat filed three separate cases. Police have so far arrested 32 people in the three cases after identifying the defendant after viewing video footage of the incident. One of those arrested is a resident of District 5 of Patgram Municipality and 31 are residents of the Burimari and Srirampur areas. The Detective District (DB) police are responsible for investigating all three cases.
Lalmonirhat DB Police Chief Omar Farooq confirmed that 32 people have been arrested so far in three cases.
