Police officer beaten to death for treatment of mental illness

The late Anisul Karim was the deputy commissioner of the Barisal Metropolitan Traffic Police. His home is in Gazipur.

He was beaten to death Monday at a mental health center called ‘Mind Aid’ in Adabar, police said.

Anisul ranked first on the list of merits in BCS’s 31st police chart, his colleagues said.

He went home to Gazipur from Barisal on Monday, said Adabar Police Station Inspector (Operations) Farooq Mollah.
He told bdnews24.com: “Initially it was known that he (Anisul) had come here for treatment because he was a bit mentally ill.”

Anisul was brought to Mind Aid by her sister.

DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner Mrityunjay De Sajal told bdnews24.com:

Harun Aur Rashid, deputy commissioner of DMP’s Tejgaon division, told bdnews24.com: He lost his life on that. The police recovered the body around 1:30 p.m.

Police officer Farooq Mollah said eight people from the hospital were taken to the police station for questioning after the incident.
