Transportation workers raped a 16-year-old girl selling chocolate on a moving bus in Gazipur on Saturday night. Police arrested Saddam Hussein, 22, the bus driver involved in the incident. However, the assistant driver Sharif Hossain (20) escaped. The girl victim filed a case at Joydebpur Police Station on Sunday afternoon.
The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of Joydebpur Police Station, Jabedul Islam, confirmed the incident.
The young man arrested was identified as Saddam Hussein. He is the son of Suruj Miah from the Bagta area of Sreebardi upazila of Sherpur. He used to drive a Taqwa Paribahan bus from a rented house in the Itahata area of the Basan Police Station of Gazipur City Corporation.
Joydebpur Police Officer in Charge (CO) Jabedul Islam cited the case as saying that the victim’s home was in the East Bamna area of Islampur upazila in the Jamalpur district. He sells chocolates by ferry to different passenger buses from a rented house in the Kabirpur area of Ashulia in Dhaka. The girl arrived at the Chandra bus stop in Gazipur’s Kaliakair upazila to sell chocolates around 9pm on Saturday. The girl got on the bus when former aide Sharif Hossain and driver Saddam Hossain, who were waiting for the Taqwa Paribahan passenger bus, asked if they could go to the Chandna junction in Gazipur. Later, the bus arrived at the Chandna junction with passengers. Later, the passengers got off the bus and took the victim back to Kaliakair.
He said the driver and aide stopped the bus at the flyover in Kaliakair rural energy area and made a bad offer to the chocolate vendor. As they did not accept his proposal, the driver and the assistant grabbed the girl and tore her clothes. When the victim began to scream, the patrol police and the locals came forward and covered the girl’s face with a veil. Later, Saddam Hussein drove the bus to Chandra. At this point the police chased them from behind. At one point, the bus with Chandra’s utern entered the Vannara branch with a beehive and avoided the police.
The OC also said that Deputy Sharif Hossain raped the girl more than once on the way to Jamalpur in Kaliakair after being chased by the police. Later, when the bus arrived near the Membarbari bus stop of the Joydebpur Police Station in Gazipur, the patrol police of the Joydebpur Police Station signaled to stop the bus. Seeing no exit, the driver stopped the bus at the police barricade and Sharif got out and ran away. Subsequently, the police rescued the victim from the bus and arrested Saddam Hussein.
The victim filed a case against bus attendant Sharif Hossain and driver Saddam Hossain at Joydebpur Police Station. Deputy Sharif Hossain on the run after the incident. Operations are being carried out in different places to stop him. He lives in the Itahata area of the Gazipur City Corporation Basan Police Station.
