With Democratic candidate Joe Biden winning as the 46th president of the United States, relations between Bangladesh and the United States will be more positive than in previous years, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said.

In particular, Biden announced the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement, which will indirectly benefit Bangladesh, he said.

He said that even if the Biden government did not reinstate the GSP or the special trade facility granted to Bangladesh, some more areas of trade could expand.

He also believes that America’s moral support for Bangladesh will be stronger in solving the Rohingya crisis.

“Bangladesh has something to do with the political values of the Democratic Party. That is why our relationship with the Biden government will be positive. The Biden government has a strong position on issues such as the Paris Climate Agreement, international trade and human rights. Bangladesh will benefit from this. “

Momen also said that Bangladesh would directly benefit from the immigration-friendly nature of the Biden government.

Aspiring immigrants to the United States also think that this liberal government will increase the chances of Bangladeshis entering and living in the United States.

Asad Azim, a resident of Comilla, has been in the US state of Arizona for three years.

He said he had seen immigrants show strong support for Joe Biden as the general election approached.

Since Democrats have historically been liberal, Azim hopes that Biden’s victory will benefit Bangladeshi immigrants in the United States in certain areas.

He believes that this will increase the rate of issuance of visas to Bangladeshis and facilitate the visa process. He also said that students who go to the United States for higher education will have job opportunities after graduation, as well as the possibility of obtaining citizenship.

The U.S. immigrant visa facility was closed during the Trump administration.

With the victory of Joe Biden, immigrant visas will be reintroduced into the United States and many aspiring Bangladeshis hope to obtain permanent residence in the United States.

Those whose visas have expired and are living illegally are also expected to have a chance to get valid.

In this regard, former Foreign Secretary Touhid Hossain believes that Bangladesh will get some indirect benefits even if it is not direct as Biden has won.

Biden has said from the beginning that he will implement the Paris Agreement.

Touhid Hossain said that since Bangladesh is vulnerable to climate change and prone to natural disasters, Biden’s return to the deal would give Bangladesh more compensation than before.

He also said that the Trump administration had stopped paying tribute to the World Health Organization and the United Nations, adding that Bangladesh would indirectly benefit from the Biden administration’s promise to reintroduce it.

After the confirmation of Joe Biden’s victory, governments and heads of state of different countries, including the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, congratulated him.
