The Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) received two helicopters to increase surveillance and capacity. The helicopters will patrol the border to prevent the entry of all kinds of drugs and in case of emergency. On Sunday (November 8), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina kicked off the two purchased activities for the BGB Air Wing by joining Ganobhaban’s video conference at Bir Uttam Anwar Hossain’s Parade Ground in Peelkhana.
The two helicopters were named after two great heroes, Lansnayek Nur Mohammad Sheikh and Lansnayek Munshi Abdur Rauf. Three Armed Personal Transport Vehicles (APC) and Riot Control Vehicle (RCV) were also added to the BGB.
Speaking as a special guest on the occasion, Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said: “The government has adopted the ‘Border Guard Bangladesh Vision 2041’ plan to build the BGB as a world-class modern border guard force to confront the challenges of the XXI century “. BGB Air Wing’s activities then started in May 2016. In January 2020, the BGB purchased two state-of-the-art Mi-171-E helicopters from the Republic of Russia. Through this, the BGB will be able to protect the borders and sovereignty of the homeland, as well as navigate by water, land and air. I believe that these two helicopters will play a very effective role in carrying out all kinds of operational, logistical and administrative activities for BGB members deployed especially in remote mountainous areas.
The interior minister said that the BGB has plans to build 16 new BOPs, border surveillance systems and border roads on all borders in the future to curb the infiltration of all kinds of drugs at all borders. There are rivers along the border, especially in the Teknaf and Sundarbans areas. Four state-of-the-art high-speed motorboats have been purchased for the BGB. 152 (ATVs) have been purchased for the base of the pyramid in coastal, char and remote highlands. More equipment will be purchased.
Two helicopter capacity
The maximum speed of the MI-161-E helicopter in the MI direction is 250 kilometers per hour. It can fly at a maximum altitude of six thousand meters. A total of 26 passengers can be transported. Transport capacity three thousand kg. The patient transport capacity is 12 people. Operated on autopilot system. This helicopter is air conditioned.
The maximum speed of the Armed Personnel Transport (APC) and the Riot Control Vehicle (RCV) is 140 km per hour, it can carry 12 passengers, the fuel tank is 256 liters, it has ballistic protection, explosion protection. 60 percent, four-wheel drive. There is a high speed night vision camera.
Also present at the BGB headquarters were the senior secretary of the public security department of the Ministry of the Interior, Mustafa Kamal Uddin, BGB director general, Major General Md. Safinul Islam and BGB officials and employees at all levels.
