Tanker bogies derailed, locals are collecting oil in buckets

Seven bogies of a train carrying oil derailed near the Satgaon train station in Srimangal upazila of Moulvibazar. In this incident, the locals are collecting oil buckets from there.

Srimangal train station assistant stationmaster Sakhawat Hossain confirmed that the incident took place around 11:40 a.m. on Saturday.

He said seven bogies of the Sylhet-bound oil train 951 leaving Chittagong derailed and capsized near the Satgaon railway station in Srimangal upazila. A Kulaura hydraulic tool van arrived at the scene and the rescue operation began. Due to this incident, the railway communication was cut off in Sylhet-Dhaka, Sylhet-Chittagong. Ordinary people are collecting oil because a lot of fuel oil has fallen from derailed wagons.

Ramiz Mia, a resident of the Satgaon area, said: “People in the area are getting oil in buckets from there.”

Rajesh Bhowmik, who was at the scene, said: “Hundreds of people are crowding here to collect oil and people are collecting oil.”

Hosna Begum said: ‘I broke free, so I picked up a bucket. Everybody is doing it. ‘

Local resident Jabed Ali said: “It is diesel so I have collected about 5 liters for sale.”

An on-duty GRP police officer said the engine derailed along with five kerosene-laden oil wagons in the accident. Meanwhile, more GRP workers have been called in to stop oil looting.
