The activities of this madrasa have started in a rented three-storey house on the slopes of the Lohar Bridge in Kamrangirchar, Dhaka. With a 1,200 square foot area on the top floor of the house, more than a hundred students will be able to take lessons. Non-residents can be admitted to this madrasa at any age.

Forty people of the third sex from the Jatrabari, Kamrangirchar, Lalbagh, Keraniganj and Badda areas of the capital participated in the opening ceremony of the madrasa on Friday. At least 16 of them came from the Haji Masjid area of Matuail in Jatrabari.

Abida Sultana Mitu, President of the Bangladesh Hijra Welfare Foundation, was the main guest at the opening performance of the two episodes. Mufti Zafar Ahmad, director of Baitul Uloom Dhalkanagar Madrasa in Kamrangirchar was the main guest for the afternoon.

The cabinet meeting on November 13, 2013 approved the policy granting state recognition to the “third gender” identity of hijras.

The following year, at the time of the promulgation of the Voter Registration Rules, the Election Commission added a transgender person as a gender identity on the registration form. Since then they have also participated in various elections.

The third-gender madrasa in Kamrangirchar is being funded by the late Ahmed Ferdous Bari Foundation. Its main director, Mufti Abdur Rahman Azad himself, is one of the entrepreneurs.

Mufti Azad said: “In this madrasa, the Qur’an will first be taught to the hijras. Furthermore, the Noorani, Najera, Hifzul Quran and Kitab sections will be introduced according to the Qaumi curriculum. His admission process has started from Friday. “

He also said that there is a plan to start another department with experienced people to educate the hijras in technical education.

“This initiative has been taken to bring hijras back into the mainstream and make them ideal people,” said Mufti Azad.

The teacher said that he has taken over as 10 instructors in the madrasa.

At the opening ceremony, Nishi told bdnews24.com that it was a great initiative. He thanked these entrepreneurs for this.

Nishi, 26, a boy from the Bikrampur area, said: “I went to school when I was very young. Then I went to Maktab for some time. No one has allowed me to enter the school madrasa since everyone found out that I was a hijra. I had to leave home at 5/6 years old. “

“After so many years, I have returned to the madrasa. It is a great pleasure for me. “

Nishi said that she likes the salon and sewing. He wants to join this job if given the opportunity.

Another Dulali hijra said, “I want to enter employment with training in something. It would have been better if. There was no need to earn a living. “

Nishi and Dulali said that at least 40 members of their community lived in Hijra Rajni’s home in the Haji Majsid area of Matuail. None of them are associated with any job. They want to work when given the opportunity.

Hijra Sonali said: “We have been deprived since childhood. Wherever I went to study, I came back. Now there is a study system for us. I thank the entrepreneurs for this ”.

Another named Kajal said: “Nobody in Corona supported us. But there are exceptions. Representatives of some people were by our side. Hijras doesn’t have a job. Nobody wants to rent us a house. We are all human beings. “

Expect life to brighten by studying in this madrasa.

Madrassa instructor Abdul Aziz Hussaini said: “Today will be a memorable day in the world. As far as I know, there is no separate educational institution for people of the third sex. This is the first. “

“They are neglected in society, they are deprived in many ways. They cannot even go to any mosque to pray. The Quran will be taught here. Later, activities to impart technical education will begin ”.

The director of the madrassa, Abdur Rahman Azad, said: “This initiative of hijras is first and foremost to please Allah Almighty. Second, this madrasa has been established for the welfare of the hijras out of conscience. “

Previously, in the past six months, the Quran was taught in eight places in Dhaka where the hijras live, he said.

Abida Sultana Mitu, president of the Hijra Welfare Foundation, said: “If Hijras gets general support, they will become the wealth of the country. They have to have job opportunities in different fields, they have to get a job. So they can’t do anything on the streets. Crime will go down. “

Jahangir Alam Shuvo, member secretary of the Foundation and Saidul Islam Madbar, councilman of the 57th district of Dhaka South City Corporation spoke at the occasion.

A permanent place for the madrasa will be provided, Councilor Saidul said.
