The arrested Moniruzzaman alias Monir is the vice president of the Adabar League Thana Awami.
He was arrested in the Mohammadpur area on Thursday night, said Abdullah Al Mamun, RAB-2 operations officer.
“He had a foreign pistol, a shotgun, an air pistol and 400 pieces of yaba,” he said.
Monir has been charged with possession, weapons and terrorist activities, said Mamun, a RAB official.
He said Monir had licenses for pistols and shotguns, but did not have air pistols.
“However, a request will be made to the deputy commissioner to revoke his license due to the illegal display of weapons.”
A leader of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League told bdnews24.com that Monir, vice president of the Thana Awami League, had a US passport.
Mamun, a RAB official, said: “There are allegations that Monir’s terrorist forces were occupying and extorting money in the vicinity of Dhaka Udyan, Nabinagar Housing, Chandrima Udyan adjacent to Shekhertek and embankment in Mohammadpur. According to the locals, he was always with 30 or 40 terrorists. “
Monir moved to the United States with his family when he began the campaign against casinos last year. The Eid of the last sacrifice returned to the country.
