Arizona is one of the few states in the United States that counts the votes in presidential elections. Democratic candidate Joe Biden leads in the state, but Republican candidate Donald Trump has narrowed the voting gap.
According to CNN, Biden leads in Arizona with 69,000 votes. The results of the second round of voting in the state’s largest county, Mericopa, were announced Wednesday night. Biden is ahead by 10,000 votes. The county tweeted that 285,000 votes had yet to be counted. Also, according to the state’s website, 48,000 votes remained to be counted in Pima County as of midnight local time.
Meanwhile, the BBC reported that the most densely populated county in the state, Marikopa, released the results of another 140,000 ballots on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
This shows that Biden is ahead of Donald Trump in Mericopa County with 64,514 votes. However, it got 11,000 fewer votes than the previous margin.
In all, Biden leads the state with 6,000 votes.
In Maricopa County, Trump received 56% of the vote, under two new terms.
According to the New York Times, to win, Trump will have to get all the votes that are yet to be counted elsewhere in Arizona. It will even get votes in areas where Democrats get votes.
Various Associated Press (AP) outlets speculate that Democrats will win the state.
