Five ships have been commissioned in the Bangladesh Navy. It has two frigates, a corvette and two modern reconnaissance ships. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commissioned the ships from the Navy via videoconference from Ganobhaban.

Earlier, the Naval Chief of Staff, Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal, delivered commissioning orders to the captains of the ships on behalf of the Prime Minister at the Banauja Isa Khan Naval Pier in Chittagong. Later, the Prime Minister officially unveiled the nameplate according to Navy tradition.

A well-equipped Navy contingent provided the Honor Guard at the ceremony.

In her speech, the Prime Minister said: “We strongly believe that two state-of-the-art frigates and a corvette equipped with modern weapons and two modern reconnaissance ships built in our own Khulna shipyard will further strengthen the ability of the Navy to defend the sovereignty of Bangladesh “.

“In light of the 2030 Forces Goal, the current government is always sincere and committed to the development of the Navy,” he said.

The newly added frigates ‘Omar Farooq’ and ‘Abu Ubaidah’ are each 112 meters long and 12.4 meters wide and the Banauja corvette is expected to be 90 meters long and 11.14 meters wide. .

Warships are capable of moving at a maximum speed of 25 nautical miles per hour and are capable of attacking enemy aircraft, ships and facilities with cannons, surface-to-air and surface-to-ground missiles, sophisticated 3D radars, fire control systems , radar jamming systems and a variety of weaponry.
