The government has released the list of holidays for 2021 after cabinet approval. The list was released by the Ministry of Public Administrations on Wednesday. Next year there will be a 22-day holiday combining general and executive orders. Of these, 7 days are weekly holidays, Friday and Saturday.

Previously, the list was approved at a cabinet meeting on Monday.

General Holidays: February 21 Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day, March 16 Birthday of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, March 26 Independence and National Day, May Day (May 1 ), May 7 Jumatul Bida, May 14 Eid-ul-Fitr, May 26 Buddhapurnima (Baishakhi Purnima), July 21 Eid-ul-Azha, August 15 National Day of Mourning, August 30 Janmashtami, August 15 October Durga Puja (Vijaya Dashami), October 19 Eid Miladunnabi (Sat), December 16 Victory Day and December 25 Birthday of Jesus Christ (Christmas).

Holidays under executive order: March 29 in Shabebarat, April 14 in the Bengali New Year, May 10 in Shabekdar, May 13 and 15 before and after Eid-ul-Fitr, July 20 and 22 before and after of Eid-ul-Azha and August 29 in Ashura.

Optional holidays: Muslim period includes Shabe Meraj on March 12, the third day of Eid-ul-Fitr on May 16, the third day of Eid-ul-Azha on July 23, the Somba of Akheri Chahar on 8 October and Fateha-i-Yazdaham on November 16. Optional Hindu festival festivities include Saraswati Puja on February 18, Shivaratri Vrata on March 21, Dolayatra on March 26, Advent of Harichand Thakur on April 9, Mahalaya on October 8, Durga Puja (Ninth) on April 14. October, Lakshmi Puja on October 20 and Shyam Puja on November 4.

In addition, there are optional holidays for employees belonging to small ethnic groups in and around CHT; April 12 and 15 are similar social festivals of Vaisabi and other small ethnic groups in CHT.

The leave order states that an employee may be allowed a maximum of 3 days of optional leave per year according to his religion. Each employee must obtain the prior approval of the corresponding authority to enjoy 3 days of optional leave according to their religion at the beginning of the year. General license, executive order can afford to enjoy optional license along with public license and weekly license.

In the case of offices whose hours and holidays are regulated by their own laws or whose jobs have been declared essential by the government, the interested offices, agencies and institutions will exercise their license in accordance with their own laws and regulations.
