A legal notice has been issued asking why promoting OC Pradeep without following Superior Court instructions is not contempt of court.

Lawyer Zulfiqar Ali Junu sent the notice to four people, including the Interior Minister and the IGP. He was asked to respond to the notice within 72 hours. Otherwise, a judicial petition will be filed in Superior Court, the lawyer said.

In the notice, the lawyer said that the then SI of Teknaf Police Station, Pradeep Kumar Das, was suspended in 2001 for professional misconduct. At that time, a departmental case was also filed against him. An order was also filed in Superior Court. But before that was decided, Pradeep was promoted to inspector.

Retired Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was shot dead by police at the Shamlapur checkpoint in Teknaf on the night of July 31. On August 5, Sinha’s older sister, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, filed a murder case in the Cox’s Bazar Magistrates Court. 9 people were charged in this.

Inspector Baharchhara Investigation Center Liaquat Ali was named No. 1 and Teknaf Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das was named Defendant No. 2.

After the case, seven policemen, including OC Pradeep, surrendered to court on August 8. The Interior Ministry later suspended Pradeep from government service. He is currently in jail.
