Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh organized a mass protest in the capital Dhaka on Monday against the publication of a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in a French magazine. The protest, organized at the north gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on the occasion of the siege of the French embassy in Dhaka, spread to the surrounding area. The whole area was heated with anti-French slogans.
After a brief demonstration at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram, the procession began to surround the French embassy. It was led by Maulana Junaid Babungari, Secretary General of Hifazat-e-Islam Bangladesh. The police prevented the procession from leaving the Purana Paltan crossing at 12:15 pm and reached the Shantinagar area.
In a brief demonstration in Shantinagar, Junaid Babungari demanded the severance of diplomatic relations with France, the closure of the French embassy in Bangladesh, the boycott of French products, the motion of condemnation in Parliament and the approval of the death penalty. for those who insult the Prophet (PBUH). At the same time, it was announced that the move would continue until the demand was met.
Under the previously announced schedule, a demonstration was supposed to be held at the Baitul Mukarram North Gate facility at 11 a.m. yesterday, but leaders and activists started gathering there earlier. Leaders and activists from different religious groups and Qawmi Madrasa students and teachers from different parts of the country, including Dhaka, participated in it. Roads in Purana Paltan, Gulistan, Dainik Bangla, Motijheel, Vijaynagar, Kakrail and Naya Paltan were closed for several hours due to the protest. Common people suffer in traffic jams. As a result, ordinary people who move in the area have to suffer greatly. Law enforcement agencies were on high alert to avoid adverse situations.
After a short rally, the protesters marched towards the French embassy around 12:15 pm. Hefazat’s general secretary, Maulana Junaid Babungari, and other senior leaders were in a truck in front of the procession. When the procession reached the Shantinagar crossing at around 1:15 p.m. M., The police blocked her.
A small demonstration was held at the Shantinagar intersection after it was obstructed by the police. Hefazat’s Dhaka Metropolitan, Amir Nur Hossain Qasemi, later announced the end of the program by offering prayers.
Earlier, Maulana Junaid Babungari, general secretary of Hifazat-e-Islam, said in a keynote speech at a pre-siege rally in the Baitul Mukarram area: However, this time with the cooperation of the government, the Prophet (the peace be upon him) has not been respected. It demands the heads of state of all Muslim countries, including Bangladesh, to sever diplomatic relations with France. I demand pressure from the United Nations, the OIC and the Arab League.
Junaid Babungari said: ‘We have to boycott French products. It requires faith. I will tell the merchants to deliver the French products before the customers boycott. We demand that Muslim countries pass a bill in parliament with the provision of the death penalty for disrespecting the Prophet (PBUH) and the Koran.
Speaking on the occasion, Allama Noor Hossain Qasemi, Amir and Central Vice President of Dhaka Metropolitan Hefazat-e-Islam, said: “The French government has damaged the faith of Muslims around the world by publishing satirical cartoons of the Prophet (PBUH). It has lit a fire in our hearts. The only way to put out this fire is to apologize to Muslims around the world.
Nur Hossain Qasemi, who called on the Prime Minister and Cabinet members, said: “Immediately pass a resolution condemning this incident in Parliament. This movement will not stop in protest of the insult to the Prophet (peace be upon him). We want to see the role of the government, if the government does not understand our language, we will be forced to launch a tougher movement.
Also speaking at the rally were Allama Mahfuzul Haque, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Qaumi Madrasa Board of Education (BEFAC), the leaders of Jamiat Maulana Junaid Al Habib, Maulana Abdur Rab Yousufi, Ahmad Abdul Quader, Maulana Kefayatullah Azhari, Allama Nurul Islam Jihadi, Mawlam General Secretary Maulana Mamunul Haque, Maulana Mujibur Rahman Hamidi, Jamiat’s leader, Maulana Manjurul Islam Afendi, Islamic unity leader, Maulana Sakhawat Hossain Razi, Maulana Khaled Saifullah Ayubi and others.
