Raihan assassination: ASI Asheke, who is on remand, is in Elahi Hospital

Sylhet: Ashek Elahi, who was held on remand for five days in connection with the death of 30-year-old Raihan Uddin at a police post in Sylhet, has been admitted to hospital.

Ashek Elahi was one of four police officers fired and three police officers retired in the Raihan murder case.

He was the one who captured Raihan and brought him to the outpost.

The PBI, which is investigating the case, showed him detained from the police lines on October 28. The following day, October 29, he appeared in court and was held in preventive detention for seven days, but was granted a five-day preventive detention. But a day after his preventive detention, he became ill during questioning on October 31 and was admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital.

The investigating officer on the case, Inspector Muhidul Islam from the Police Investigation Bureau (PBI) confirmed the information to banglanews and said that ASI Ashek Elahi fell ill during interrogation after being in pre-trial detention for five days. He was admitted to the hospital with chest pain and high blood pressure. But now he is much healthier. It can be sent again.

Raihan was seriously injured on October 11 at the Bandarbazar police post in Sylhet. He was admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital with serious injuries at 8.40 am the same day by members of the police, including ASI Asheke Elahi, from the Bandarbazar outpost. Raihan died in the hospital at 7:50 am.

Police claim that Raihan was killed in a massive beating at a castle in the city. However, the family claimed that Raihan was tortured to death at the Bandar Bazar outpost under the Sylhet Kotwali Police Station. The deceased was identified as Akhalia Neharipara of Raihan Nagar, son of the late Rafiqul Islam. She worked as an assistant in a doctor’s chamber in the Stadium Market area.

Raihan’s wife, Tahmina Akhter Tani, filed a murder case at the Kotwali Police Station alleging death in custody. Then things get worse. The investigation committee of the metropolitan police, after discovering the truth of the incident, suspended four policemen, including SI Akbar, in charge of the Bandar Bazar outpost, and withdrew three more.

The case is being investigated by the PBI under the direction of the police headquarters. The body of the deceased was collected from the grave and re-examined. The forensic report showed 111 wound marks on Raihan’s body.

Meanwhile, SI Akbar, who was suspended, escaped, but agent Titu Chandra Das, who was in police custody, was arrested on October 20 and Harunur Rashid on October 24 and held in pre-trial detention for five days. Transfer of SMP Commissioner Golam Kibria on October 22.

The locals have been protesting in the countryside under the slogan “Great Akhalia (Baro Hamshaya) Sangram Parishad” over Raihan’s death.
