A court sentenced a woman named Lilifa Banu to five years in prison for filing a false rape case in Joypurhat. Judge Mohammad Rustam Ali of the Joypurhat Court for the Suppression of Abuse of Women and Children delivered the verdict on Monday afternoon (2 November).
Prosecutor Nripendranath Mandal, who is prosecuting the case, confirmed the matter.
The doomed Lilifa Banu is the daughter of Shahjahan Ali from Sundarpur village in Joypurhat Sadar upazila.
According to the case summary, on June 22, 2019, Lilifa Banu fell asleep alone at her home in the Sundarpur village of Joypurhat Sadar upazila. Ruhul Amin, from the same village, tricked her into opening the door and raping her. The next day, when Lilifa Banu brought a case to the Joypurhat Women and Children Abuse Suppression Court, the judge ordered the police to investigate the case.
A subsequent investigation revealed that a false case was brought to punish the defendants in the case for previous hostilities. The judge sentenced Lilifa Banu to five years in prison and acquitted the defendant Ruhul Amin of such a false rape case.
