A mosque attendant has been arrested for spreading rumors of arson

Abu Yunus Mohammad filed charges of insulting religion in Burimari, Patgram, Lalmonirhat. Police arrested five more people, including Jabed Ali, a 71-year-old Burimari Mosque cleric, for beating and burning 50-year-old Sahidunbi Jewel to death. So far 10 people have been arrested in 3 cases filed in this regard.

Previously, the police arrested five people in the first phase and took them to court around 6 p.m. Sunday. Five more people were arrested on Monday (November 2).

However, the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Mahmudunbi from the District Detective Department (DB), requested preventive detention for 5 days in the murder case of 5 people detained in the first phase. The request for preventive detention will be heard on Tuesday, judicial sources said. Patgram police said five people, including a servant arrested in the second phase, may be sent to court Monday afternoon.

Jewel’s cousin Saiful Alam, Patgram (SI) Police Station Deputy Inspector Shahjahan Ali and Burimari Union Parishad President Abu Saeed Nawaz Nishat filed three separate cases.

So far, the police have arrested 10 people after identifying the defendant after watching video of the incident. All the detainees are residents of the Burimari area. The Detective District (DB) police are responsible for monitoring all three cases.

The detainees in the first phase are Ashraful Alam (22) and Bayezid (24), son of Ismail Hossain from the area, Rafiq (20), son of Yufuf Ali alias Oli Hossain, Masum Ali (35), son of Abul Hashem and Shafiqul Islam (25), son of Samchizul Haque.

On Sunday (November 1), Al Mahmoud Fauzul Kabir, director of the Investigation and Complaints Team of the National Human Rights Commission, said that there had been no incidents of insults to the Koran in the mosque. He said the incident was just a rumor.

After testifying on Sunday afternoon, Al Mahmoud Fauzul Kabir, Director of the Investigation and Complaints Team of the National Human Rights Commission, said: Speaking with the imam and muezzin of the mosque, it was learned that the dead Jewel did not insult the Koran. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the shelf was killed by spreading mere rumors.

He also mentioned that the investigation report will be presented to the chairman of the National Human Rights Commission within the next 7 days after visiting Dhaka. Sumon Kumar, officer in charge of the Patgram Police Station, admitted to arresting five people, including a mosque attendant.

Note that last Thursday night in Burimari, Abu Yunus accused of insulting the Quran. A group of criminals burned the body of a mental patient named Sahidunabi Jewel after beating him to death.
