The Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested two teenagers about three months after they were strangled to death after being raped in Kashimpur, Gazipur.
Those arrested are the Md. Kundipur area of the Jessore Jhikargachha Police Station. Said Abdul Karim’s son. Russell alias Rahul (14) and Sabuj Mia (14), son of Nasib Sikder from the Bagbari area of the Kashimpur Police Station in the metropolis of Gazipur.
Gazipur PBI Police Superintendent Mohammad Makshuder Rahman gave details about the arrest and murder of two teenagers at a press conference at the Gazipur PBI office on Monday afternoon.
Makshuder Rahman said, on October 29, near the tapas factory in the Bagbari area of Kashimpur. The skull, 19 bones, skin and a pair of shorts from an unidentified five-year-old girl were recovered from under the sand of the Kafil Uddin building under construction. Later, the child was the tenant of the house in the area. The identity of Rafiqul Islam’s daughter, Riya Moni, was confirmed. Although a general diary regarding the child’s disappearance was kept at the Kashimpur Police Station, after the child’s body was recovered, the child’s mother, Shyamoli Begum, filed a murder case with the police station on 30 October. The boy’s parents worked in a local garment factory.
When the case was handed over to Gazipur PBI, the teenager involved in the incident was arrested at his home in Kundipur under the Jessore District Jhikargachha Police Station on Sunday night. Russell aka Md. Rahul was arrested. In his confession, his friend Sabuj was arrested in Kashimpur Bagbari.
During preliminary questioning by PBI police, the detainees confessed to being involved in the incident and said they used to buy chocolates and cookies for the minor at different times. On the morning of August 9, the day of the incident, the two together raped the girl at Russell’s home. After telling the parents about the incident, Russell and Sabuj strangled the boy and buried the body under the sand.
