Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today criticized propaganda on social media and the media in the name of freedom of expression and called for immediate protests.
The Prime Minister said: “There are some introverts in the country who are spreading propaganda to create chaos. If there is something against him, it is said that freedom of expression is restricted. Is freedom of expression creating conflict? That’s my word. ‘
He said: ‘So if someone spreads propaganda, we have to protest immediately. We don’t have to be quiet, we don’t have to be defensive. ‘
“It may be temporarily difficult to believe what is true, but it will succeed, that is the reality,” he added.
He said so in his inaugural address at the regular cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Prime Minister attended the virtual meeting this morning via video conference from Ganobhaban and a virtual meeting from the cabinet room of the Cabinet Members’ Secretariat.
Later, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam briefed journalists at a meeting at the Secretariat.
Sheikh Hasina said: “Whenever Bangladesh goes to a good place, where international organizations have expressed apprehensions about Bangladesh beforehand, Bangladesh goes ahead; it may not be to your liking (so-called intellectual).”
He said: ‘We will be beggars, we will get closer to them, we will eat more, this is what they want. But we won’t. We have made the country independent. We will stand on our own feet.
Sheikh Hasina further added that this class suffers greatly when it comes to moving the country forward. And those who did not want our freedom suffer more. This is what we understand and this is the real thing.
The Prime Minister said that there is a class of people who are harming society or the government and who do not care about people’s lives. Because they have a different purpose. Criticism is directed at them, or at least when they cannot carry out their conspiracy.
The head of government said: “If you catch (arrest) those who will speak to ruin a beautiful environment, it is an interference in freedom of expression, it does not happen. Everyone will have responsibilities and duties.
“People all over the world will say that propaganda is never free speech,” he said. However, now social media, digital Bangladesh and the digital age, so whoever says what they want, whatever they are spreading propaganda, if they act against someone again, there will be uproar and rumors. But they don’t see the reason.
The Prime Minister said: “We have a weakness. If we ask someone about it (the actual incident), the reason no longer exists. They get defensive.” This mentality is not good either. It must be said what is true, that man has tried to create conflict in this way.
He said that if the bags of the anti-quota activists (BCS) have large stones or ramada, kirich-e! No books were found there. It is not talked about. Since then a lot of news has come out and a lot of images have come out (in the media).
At that time, the Awami League office was attacked and stoned, the office was vandalized and between 40 and 50 leaders and workers were injured, who had to undergo treatment at home and abroad and some of them are still in treatment. , said.
Sheikh Hasina said, no one had any headaches from that. Most importantly, the police arrested the man accused of spreading propaganda by setting himself on fire in the streets. While there was a riot in front of the BGB gate in Pilkhana, many people also entered the BGB gate, so what would have happened if the BGB had fired there?
Citing another example from that time, Sheikh Hasina said that a false statement by a television actress (later arrested and imprisoned) was brought to the Awami League office to confuse people.
He said that in the video he was promoting, he was seen looking at the street sign and standing on the side of the road.
