The president’s second wife is a ninth-grade student

Abu Taleb, president of the Buraburi union in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram, has been charged with child marriage. She married a ninth grader at a local school on Sunday night (November 1). This is your second marriage.

However, President Abu Taleb claimed that although the bride was in the ninth grade, she was twenty years old. This is in no way child marriage.
According to local sources, the president’s new girlfriend is named Bahnita Osman Bahni. She is the daughter of Osman Gani from Dalan village in the Buraburi union and a freshman from Baksiganj High School in the same union.
According to a source responsible for Baksiganj High School, according to the certificate presented to the school, Bahnita Osman Bahni was born on September 23, 2003. She is 18 years and two months old.
Meanwhile, confirming the question of the second marriage, President Abu Taleb said: ‘I married a second time with the permission of my first wife, as she has been ill for a long time. But this is not child marriage.
Regarding the complaints from locals about this, the president said: ‘According to the final exam certificate of the bride’s fifth class, she was born in 2000. As such, she is in her early 20s. The marriage took place with the consent of the girl and her family. This is not a child marriage.
Abu Bakkar Siddique, Buraburi UP town policeman and uncle of the bride, said: “Bahni’s father has been bedridden for a long time. The bride’s education has been interrupted due to her father’s illness. Although he is in the ninth grade, he is twenty years old.
However, Meheruzzaman, the principal of Kanni Bahni’s school, said that Bahni had only given a break once in class VIII. As such, he is currently in the 10th grade. But after taking a year off, he is now in the ninth grade.
Meanwhile, Ulipur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Deputy Commissioner (Aceland) Ashraful Alam Russell said legal action would be taken after investigating the president’s child marriage allegations.

He said: ‘There is no legal impediment to a second marriage if the first wife has permission. However, legal action will be taken after investigating whether it is child marriage. Because a public representative will prevent such incidents (child marriage), he cannot do that job himself.
