Hifazat-e-Islam Bangladesh is holding a rally in Dhaka to protest the exhibition of Prophet Muhammad cartoons (PBUH) in France.
According to the previously announced schedule, they began meeting in front of the South Plaza at Baitul Mukarram in Paltan starting at 11 a.m. on Monday (November 2).
Earlier, Hifazat workers from different parts of the country started gathering here from 6 am.
At 11 o’clock the rally turned into a sea of people. Roads from Vijayanagar, Press Club to Paltan, Gulistan were closed. A large number of policemen were present in the area.
Hefazat leaders at the rally demanded a statewide condemnation and a hate motion against the French prime minister’s statement. They also demanded a boycott of French products and the closure of the French embassy in Bangladesh.
Hefazat activists are expected to surround the French embassy in Gulshan after the demonstration.
Samuel Patty, a high school teacher on the outskirts of Paris, France, showed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) while discussing free speech with school children. Samuel, a 16-year-old Chechen teenager, was beheaded on October 16 after the incident.
Following Samuel’s assassination, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the continuation of his anti-Islamic activities and cartoon displays of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This has strained France’s relations with several countries in the Muslim world.
