The district women’s and children’s court acquitted a witness in a rape case in Barguna with life imprisonment.
Sunday (November 1) Judge of the Barguna Women and Children Court. Hafizur Rahman gave the verdict. At the same time, a fine of Rs 50,000 was also imposed on the convicted person.
The prisoner is Emadul Haque, son of Sekandar Jomaddar from Bainchatki village in Patharghata upazila of Barguna and a former member of the UP. Those rescued are Mohsin, son of Khabir Ghazi from the same area and Moazzem, son of Ahed Khan.
According to the file, on February 19, 2015, a housewife filed a complaint with the Barguna Women and Children Abuse Court for the rape of her daughter. Emadul Haque, convicted in the case, was witness number four.
In the case brief, the plaintiff mentioned that when his daughter went out to answer the call of nature on February 16, 2015 at 11 p.m., the acquitted accused raped her in a group. Then the applicant woke up and went to the girl’s room to look for her without seeing her and found her shoes and scarf. After searching, he rescued the girl from the betel garden.
After investigating the case, the police charged Emadul Haque, a witness in the case, and submitted an investigative report to the court. Emadul Haque was witness number four in the case. However, Mohsin and Moazzem were re-indicted on the charge sheet after Emadul was acquitted after rejecting the investigation and requesting a new investigation.
According to judicial sources, Emadul, the fourth witness in the case, raped the housewife’s daughter. He then blamed his opponents Mohsin and Moazzem for the rape. He helped the housewife incriminate the two innocent accused.
The plaintiff later complained to the court that Emadul, a witness in the case, had raped his daughter. After that, he threatened to put the rape charge on the shoulders of his opponents Mohsin and Moazzem. So he was helpless and accused Mohsin and Moazzem of rape. Emadul, a witness in the case, was jailed for eight months after the incident came to light. The court subsequently reviewed the testimony of the plaintiffs and witnesses and sentenced Emadul to life in prison.
In this regard, said the lawyer for the accused Asaduzzaman, we will appeal this verdict in the superior court. So far we have not received a copy of the verdict.
Prosecuting attorney (PP) Mostafizur Rahman said it was a heinous incident. He himself raped a schoolgirl due to a conflict with a neighbor and forced the plaintiff to present a false case against the others. The court has given Emadul Haque exemplary punishment in this heinous incident.
