Two locals have been accused of posting their status on Facebook in support of a cartoon of the Holy Prophet in Muradnagar, Comilla. The protesters set fire to several houses, including the president’s house, as the local president was not present at the arbitration.
Police have barricaded the area in the incident. The entry of locals is not allowed. The situation is tense in the area.
Previously, the police arrested two people, including a teacher, in a religious blasphemy case. They were sent to jail through court on Sunday morning. The defendants are Shankar Debnath and Anik Bhowmik.
According to local sources, the two men posted a status on Facebook in support of the cartoon of the Prophet in France. Korbanpur village residents organized a protest procession on Saturday afternoon. In the afternoon, Dhanmia from the Korbanpur village of upazila filed a case under the Digital Security Law against the two. The Bangra Bazar police arrested the defendants overnight.

Muradnagar Upazila Bangra Bazar Police Station OC Kamruzzaman Talukder said that six houses, including one in Korbanpur village, and seven adjoining houses were burned for allegedly posting a status on Facebook in support of a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad. The police are in control of the situation.
