Hindus’ homes were vandalized and burned for blasphemy

In France, a group of locals destroyed and burned the houses of Hindus in Comilla under the pretext of supporting the incident of showing cartoons mocking the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through comments on social networks Facebook. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon (November 1) in the village of Korbanpur at the East Dhair 4th Union of the Muradnagar upazila Police Station in Bangra de Comilla. This has created panic among the Hindu families there. Comilla Additional Police Superintendent (DSB) Azimul Ahsan confirmed the vandalism and arson.
It was learned that the office of the local UP president, Bankumar Shiv, was set on fire. 9/10 families have been attacked and vandalized. Local fire service personnel worked to control the fire.
Meanwhile, images and videos of destroyed and burned houses were posted on Facebook social media within moments. Police from the local Bangra police station rushed to control the situation. Comilla Deputy Commissioner Abul Fazal Mir, Police Superintendent Syed Nurul Islam and other administration officials rushed to the scene.

It emerged that on Saturday (October 31), Shankar Debnath, a member of the Hindu community in Korbanpur, expressed his support for the exhibition of cartoons of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in France in a Facebook post. A case has also been brought against Shankar Debnath for supporting him. Police arrested Shankar Debnath and two other people in the case on Sunday (November 1) and sent them to jail. Another defendant in the case, Anik Bhowmik, is the son of Jibon Bhowmik from Andikot village in Muradnagar upazila.

Comilla Additional Police Superintendent (DSB) Azimul Ahsan said that a group of locals in Korbanpur on Sunday afternoon set fire to the office of local UP President Bankumar Shiv, the home of the arrested accused Shankar Debnath and destroyed several houses. Local fire service personnel worked to control the fire. Additional police have been deployed. In addition, Comilla Deputy Commissioner Abul Fazal Mir, Police Superintendent Syed Nurul Islam and other administrative officials went to the scene.
