The Upazila administration has evicted the illegal Medina Group establishment owned by Dhaka-6 MP Haji Selim in Sonargaon of Narayanganj.
The illegal establishment of Medina Group’s Tiger Cement Company was evicted from the Meghnaghat area from 4 pm to 6 pm on Sunday.
The eviction campaign was led by Executive Magistrate Upazila, Deputy Commissioner (Land) Al Mamun.
He told The Daily Star: There are 2.11 acres on one side of the cement factory, 1.7 acres on the other side, 1.20 acres on the right side of the toll plaza, and a total of 4.39 acres were illegally occupied. Some parts have been evacuated from this afternoon until night. All the evictions were not possible due to lack of time. I have given three days notice to the authorities of the Medina Group. If we do not abandon the occupation within this time, we will carry out the eviction campaign again.
Officials from the Medina Group were present during the eviction, but refused to speak to journalists.
Irfan Selim, the son of Dhaka’s 7th district deputy Haji Selim, has been arrested for allegedly beating a naval officer. Since then, efforts have been made to recover various government and private properties in their possession.
