Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has sought the cooperation of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the ongoing conflict with Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh. On Saturday, after the latest ceasefire attempt failed, he asked Putin to initiate emergency consultations to provide security. French news agency AFP reported.

The old conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh region resumed on September 26. Meanwhile, some 2,000 people have died in the conflict. The fighting has not stopped even after Armenia and Azerbaijan reached a ceasefire agreement at the initiative of Russia. The United States has tried to resolve the conflict. As part of this, the two countries reached a third ceasefire. If that too failed, there was no agreement despite the resumption of ceasefire talks on Friday.

Pashinyan wrote a letter to Putin after ceasefire talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan broke down in Geneva on Friday. The letter was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. The letter warned that the ongoing conflict with Azerbaijan could escalate further.

In a statement, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said the Armenian prime minister had asked the Russian president to initiate “urgent consultations” to ensure security. To ensure the security of Armenia, it is possible to specify the type and scope of cooperation that Russia can provide.
