Lalmonirhat: The ashes of the body of Shahidunnabi Jewel, who was killed by the spread of rumors, are still on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway. The smell of corpses mingles in the air.

The road is like a cremation ground!

The deceased was identified as Shahidunnabi Jewel, son of Abdul Wazed Miah from the Shalban Mistripara area of Rangpur. He is a former librarian at Rangpur Cantt Public School and College and a former student at Dhaka University. He became mentally unbalanced after being fired last year.

Going to the place, it can be seen that before reaching the Burimari Union Parishad by Patgram Upazila Sadar, the black ash can be seen lying on the road. The place is surrounded by plastic boxes with bronze on all sides by members of the police. Many stores in the market are still closed.

>>> 3 cases of death by blows in Lalmonirhat, 5 arrested

Babul, a tea vendor from Burimari Union Parishad, told banglanews that shortly after Asr prayers ended on Thursday, some young men wearing T-shirts took off their collars and brought them to the council. At that moment, two and a half people gathered on the Union Parishad grounds. They were all trying to snatch young detainees by spreading rumors of insults to the Koran. When the atmosphere gradually warmed up, like many others, he closed his store and left.

Ayub Ali, a village police officer in charge of guarding the Burimari Union Parishad, told banglanews that young Shahidunnabi Jewel and his friend Sultan Jobayer were locked in a council room due to crowds. The council’s front door was also closed. After not being able to handle the OC, UNO was informed and first the police came from the Burimari immigration post and tried to control it. The president of Upazila, UNO, OC came to the council and sat down to discuss the matter. At night thousands of people gathered on the council grounds. The president of Upazila, UNO, OC tried unsuccessfully to calm the crowd with the microphone. Then the police fired several blank shots to control the situation. As the crowd grew more enraged, no more shots were fired.

The malefactors cut off the electricity supply to the town hall and started throwing stones and sand at the town hall. The administration people survived despite all this. The criminals then broke through the council’s back door, entered the room, smashed the door, and snatched Jewel. The CO then left the council with Jewel’s friend, Sultan Jobayer, on the roof of the building. In this the sultan survived.

>>> Rumors spread that a young man was beaten to death, his body was set on fire

A shopkeeper, who did not want to be identified, told banglanews that a decorator at the market brought two young men from the mosque to beat them. The decorating merchant spread rumors in the market that the Quran had been insulted. Hearing this, the market folks were quick to come to the advice. After the night, between 30 and 40 strangers between the ages of 12 and 18 joined the crowd. The building was raided and Jewel was beaten to death in the room. Then an old cloth seller (Benamaji Muslim) tied a rope around the body and dragged the young men onto the road. The body was burned to ashes with hotel gasoline. At that time, 30-40 unidentified youth and adolescents marched in procession with the Naray Tagbi motto.

Such incidents would not have occurred if the administration had rescued the two young men and taken them to the police station. As soon as they made the decision, there was a massive explosion at the council premises. So the situation was beyond the scope of the administration. However, those who spread false rumors have killed a devout Muslim and reduced his body to ashes. The merchant demanded his punishment.

A devotee who attended Asr prayers at the Burmamari Central Jame Mosque on Saturday afternoon said the Quran was not insulted. It’s just a rumor. Before the last 10th parliamentary elections, some outsiders turned all of Patgram upazila into a battlefield under the motto of Naraye Tagbir. Numerous houses were burned. He also killed 4 people. They may have something to do with this rumor.

Meanwhile, Patgram police arrested five people in three cases. Deputy Commissioner Abu Jafar has formed a three-member investigative committee headed by an additional district magistrate to investigate the incident. However, RAB is investigating the shadow of the incident. Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) patrols continue in the Burimari area alongside the police.

Burimari Union Parishad (UP) president Abu Saeed Newaz Nishat told banglanews it was a rumor. Mike couldn’t calm down because the robbers were outsiders. The evildoers have destroyed and plundered his council. He has also presented a case in this regard.
