Police arrested two people in connection with the beating and strangulation of a heroic freedom fighter in a rural arbitration in Basail upazila de Tangail. The heroic freedom fighter named Abdul Latif Khan (65) was beaten to death in the Upazila-speaking village of Motra on Friday night.

Two people were arrested in Saturday’s incident.

Abdul Latif Khan’s son, Habib Khan, filed a murder case at the Basail police station on Saturday, naming 11 people. After the case, the police arrested two defendants Liton (40) and Ujjwal (38) from the Motra area at noon. They were later sent to jail through the court.

Confirming the matter, the Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Basail Police Station, Harunur Rashid, told the media that a case had been recorded at the Basail Police Station in connection with the murder of the heroic freedom fighter Abdul Latif Khan. Two defendants in the case have been arrested and sent to jail through court. Efforts to arrest the remaining defendants continue.

Police and locals said that for several days, freedom fighter Latif Khan had been arguing with his neighbor Abu Khan and his son Pavel and Pervez over fish in the pond. An arbitration was then held in the backyard of the home of local UP member Shahjahan Khan on Friday afternoon.

Latif Khan was beaten and strangled by some young men, including Abu Khan, Pavel and Parvez due to the argument.

He was rushed to the Tangail General Hospital in critical condition and the doctor on duty declared him dead.
