On September 30, Rifat’s wife, Ayesha Siddique Minni, and 10 other adults were sentenced by Barguna session and district judge Md. Ashaduzzaman. The death sentence of six defendants, including Minni, was announced that day. Four were acquitted.
The six convicts sentenced to death are Rakibul Hasan Rifat alias Rifat Faraji (23), Al Qayyum alias Rabbi Akon (21), Mohaiminul Islam Sifat (19), Md. Heart of Rezwan Ali Khan, also known as Heart of Tiktak (22) , Md. Hasan (19) and Ayesha Siddique Minni (19).
The defendants acquitted are Md. Musa (22), Rafiul Islam Rabbi (20), Md. Sagar (19) and Kamrul Hasan Simon (21).
The court announced the verdict of 14 minors on Tuesday. Six of the defendants have been sentenced to 10 years, four to five years and one to three years. Three people have been released.
Among the accused are 10 adults and 14 minors. The main defendant, Nayan Bond, was killed in a ‘shootout’ with police on July 2, 2019.
