Lalmonirhat Patgram Upazila murder victim. Local Abul Hossain (36) admitted to slapping Shahidunnabi Jewel (50) on the left cheek first. Abul Hossain told the Bengali Tribune on Friday night that he was taken out of the mosque after being slapped. Later, when Jewel was taken inside Upazila’s Burimari Union Parishad, locals beat him to death and burned his body on the road.
Abul Hossain is the son of Habu Miah from the Islampur area in the number one district of the Burimari union. He is a decorator merchant at Rumel Market, east-south of Burimari Union Parishad. He is a regular worshiper of the Burimari Central Jame Mosque.
Abul Hossain told the Bengali Tribune, ‘Riyad (33), the son of Bara Rezoan (president of Rezoan Burimari Bazar Samiti and secretary of the mosque committee), his two managers, an unidentified person and I were present in the courtyard of the mosque after the prayers of Asr. At that time we were talking to Riyadh about the money owed to the land. Suddenly I heard the sound of Jewel arguing with Khadem Jubed Ali inside the mosque. At one stage of the altercation, Jewel was abusing Khadem. When I asked him his identity, he claimed to be a RAB man. I have doubts about giving one identity at a time. At that time I slapped him twice on the left cheek in anger and took him out of the mosque and sat him on the verandah steps and wanted to know his name and address. The other person who was with him told us that they came from Rangpur. About 25-30 people meet one by one. First I called President Abu Saeed Newaz Nishat. He said he was out and asked to call UP member Hafizul Islam. Then I called Hafizul Islam and handed over the two men along with the motorcycle, the notebook and two jackets. When asked about the rumors, Abul Hossain said: “After handing them over to the members, the chairman of the mosque committee, Rafiqul Islam Pradhan, came.” Later he also went to the Parishad Union. Golam Rabbani, a businessman associated with Burimari Union Parishad, said: “Suddenly, on Thursday (October 29) evening, public meetings began to take place at the Union Parishad premises. At one point I saw people from all over the place bursting through the windows and doors of the Parishad Union. Thousands of people gathered at this time. Later I learned that an unknown person had been beaten and burned for insulting the Quran. Since I didn’t go there, I can’t say much.
Abu Saeed Newaz Nishat, President of Burimari Union Parishad, said: “The furniture, bars, doors and windows of my parishad union have been severely damaged. In this case, we have decided to present a case on behalf of the council. Lalmonirhat Additional Police Superintendent Rabiul Islam said: “We are trying to find the real culprits. The case will be shelved after some time. I have gone out into the field to arrest those involved.

Shahidunnabi Jewel was beaten to death by a mob in front of Burimari Union Parishad in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Thursday night (October 29). Later his body was set on fire by the mad mob.
