The gates of the historic Al Haram Mosque in Mecca were attacked by cars. It was learned that the attacker tried to enter the mosque through gate number 69 in a car.
The London-based Middle East Eye reported that a man rammed his car into the Masjid al-Haram gate late on Friday.
However, no casualties were reported in the incident. The accused driver has been detained by the security forces.
Sultan al-Dosari, a spokesman for the Mecca administration, said security officials learned around 10:30 pm local time that a car had collided with the entrance to the Great Mosque of Mecca.
He said the car suddenly hit the road and hit hard while speeding down a road on the south side of the Great Mosque. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The Saudi state news agency SPA said the driver was a Saudi national and was “mentally unbalanced.”
