Committee chairman arrested in Narayanganj mosque explosion

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Abdul Gafur, chairman of a mosque committee, in connection with an explosion at a mosque on the west floor of Fatulla Police Station in Narayanganj’s Sadar Upazila.

He was arrested at his home in Talla on Friday night.

CID Narayanganj Special Superintendent of Police Nasir Uddin Ahmed said he would be arrested in a case brought by the police at Fatullah police station in connection with the mosque explosion.

It is known that the charge sheet in the case of victims is on the way to being finalized. 36 people are going to be charged in this. According to CID sources, 36 people are initially working.

Of the 36, there are 26 members, including six from Titas, two from DPDC, and the chairman of the mosque’s management committee. But it can be more or less.

Among them are Titas Gas Area Managing Engineer Fatullah Mohammad Sirajul Islam, Deputy Manager Mahmudur Rahman, Assistant Assistant Engineer SM Hasan Shahriar, Assistant Engineer Manik Mia, Staff Ismail Pradhan, Assistant Hanif Mia, Lead Developer Ayub Ali and Lead Plaintiff Chowdhury and Lead Supervisor Chowdhury. Arifur Rahman, meter reader from Narayanganj East and Mubarak Hossain, electrician.

Among them, eight Titas officials and two DPDC employees have been arrested. Electrical mechanic Mubarak Hossain has given a confessional statement in court. Eight Titas officials and employees have been granted bail.

It can be mentioned that 36 people were burned in the explosion at the mosque on September 4. 34 of them have died. SI Humayun Kabir from Fatulla Police Station filed a case against Fatulla Police Station on September 5 accusing unknown persons. Later, the case was turned over to the CID.
