Get rid of police fear from people’s minds: President

President Mohammad urged members of the police to carry out their duties with devotion. Abdul Hamid said that members of the police must perform their duties sincerely by establishing mutual relations between the police and the people.

The president made the call in a message Friday. The president gave this message on the occasion of ‘Community Police Day-2020’ on Saturday.

He said: “Community policing is carried out in light of the principle ‘The police are the people, the people are the police.’ The fear of the police must be removed from people’s minds. The community policing system should be established as part of the social system giving the utmost importance to the fundamental rights of the people, human rights and the rule of law in the performance of their professional duties.

Welcoming the initiative to celebrate ‘Community Policing Day-2020’ organized by the Bangladesh Police, the President said: “I think this time the theme of ‘Community Policing Day-2020’ ‘Community Policing in all parties’ is very appropriate and timely.

He said that the Bangladesh Police are playing a commendable role in maintaining internal security, maintaining law and order, controlling crime and defending human rights. In recent times, the police have had significant success in curbing militancy and terrorism, protecting democracy, and ensuring public safety. The unique example of patriotism, professionalism and humanity that members of the police have set, especially during the Coronation period, has greatly enhanced the image and dignity of the police for the common man.

Abdul Hamid said that the police and the people must work together to create a clear and unequivocal concept among all and create the capacity to apply it in practice for the proper expansion and acceptance of community policing.

He said: “We have already started the journey of becoming a developed country with the conviction of the Father of the Bangabandhu Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build a golden Bengal. In many cases we have already succeeded in that journey.” In this case, the Bangladesh Police is also driving the government’s development activities as a private driver.

The president said that members of the police should always strive to build the Bangladesh Police as a people’s police. It is strongly believed that community policing will play an important role in a people-friendly policing system.

The president wished all the programs adopted on the occasion of ‘Community Police Day-2020’ general success.
