Haji Selim’s son, Irfan Selim, and his associates are trying to take responsibility for the accusations of beating and killing a naval officer. The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) is investigating a case brought against the Dhanmondi Police Station against Irfan Selim, son of MP Haji Selim, for striking and attempting to kill a naval officer. Irfan and his accomplices were taken from the Dhanmondi Model Police Station jail to the Metropolitan Detective Police Office on Minto Road on Thursday (October 29) at noon for investigation and questioning. Irfan Selim, his bodyguard Zahid and Haji Siddique, an official of an AB Siddique organization alias Dipur, have been in custody for three days. The Dhanmondi Model Police Station questioned three people Wednesday night.
Concerned police sources said the defendants were confronted and asked to know the incident that day. During questioning, they said, they got out of the car without any instructions from Irfan and beat him.
Earlier on Wednesday night (October 26), Dhanmondi OC model police station Ikram Ali Mia confirmed to the Bangla Tribune that the case was turned over to DB. He said: ‘The investigation of the case has been ordered to be turned over to the DB division in Tejgaon. We have not yet delivered the documents of the case we have. I am working on it. I’ll deliver the defendant in the morning.
On the other hand, Irfan and Zahid will also be in preventive detention for seven days in the arms and drugs law case presented by the RAB.
On Monday (October 26) morning, Navy Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan filed an attempted murder case against Haji Selim’s son and his accomplices at the Dhanmondi Police Station. The defendants in the case are Erfan Selim, his bodyguard Mohammad Zahid, the protocol officer of the Medina Group of Haji Siddique, AB Siddique Dipu, and the driver Mizanur Rahman and 2-3 others.
On Sunday night (October 25), two or three people got out of Haji Selim’s car at a traffic light in Kalabagan and threw Wasim Ahmed Khan to the pavement and hit him randomly. Later the traffic police arrived and rescued him. Pedestrians videotaped the scene, which instantly went viral on Facebook. Dhanmondi police arrived and took the car to the police station from the scene.
Wasif Ahmed claimed in the affidavit that he was returning home to Mohammadpur by motorcycle after buying books in Nilkhet. His wife was also with him. LabAid was hit by a car behind his motorcycle in front of the hospital. Wasim Ahmed wanted to know the reason why he stopped the motorcycle and hit the glass of the car. Then a man came out, abused him and drove to Kalabagan. Wasif Ahmed also followed them on a motorcycle. When the car stopped at the Kalabagan bus stop, Wasif stood in front of the car with her motorcycle. Then three or four people got out of the car and said, ‘I’m going to take out your navy / army, your lieutenant / captain. I’ll kill you today. ‘ Saying this, he started hitting her. Then they fled.
In the case presented Monday, the RAB raided Haji Selim’s home in Chawkbazar in Old Dhaka at noon the same day. From there, Irfan Selim and Zahid were detained by the RAB. A mobile RAB court sentenced the two to one and a half years in prison for illegally keeping alcohol and walkie-talkies at home. The RAB has filed four cases each against the two under the Narcotics and Weapons Act.
