Police arrested the victim’s grandfather for allegedly raping his seven-year-old granddaughter. The name of the accused grandfather is Muntaz Ali (55). The incident took place in Nadaga Harishpur village of the Darshana Police Station in Chuadanga District. Darshana police arrested the defendants around 7 pm on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, at 5 p.m., the girl’s mother-in-law filed a lawsuit against her father-in-law Muntaz Ali for allegedly raping her daughter.
Sources in the case said that Achma Begum from Ujalpur Bilpara from the same union was married to Hafizul Islam, son of Muntaz Ali from Nadaga Harishpur village in Begumpur union from Chuadanga Sadar upazila. Achma Begum had been living in her father-in-law Muntaz’s house with her husband Hafizul since their marriage. After a few years of life, the daughter-in-law used to make bad proposals to Achma at different times. At that time she informed her husband about the matter, husband Hafizul came with his wife to his father-in-law’s house in Ujalpur Bilpara and began to live there. However, the seven-year-old daughter of the Hafizul-Asma couple occasionally visited her grandparents’ home in Harishpur village.
Last Monday (October 26) the boy went to visit his grandfather’s house. The next day, around 6 in the morning, the boy’s grandmother went to look for snails in the pond and Grandfather Muntaz raped his granddaughter. After the rape, the granddaughter forbade her to tell anyone and threatened her in various ways. But on Wednesday afternoon the boy returned home and told his mother everything. Upon hearing the incident, the girl’s mother, Achma, together with her daughter, filed a rape case against her father-in-law Muntaz at the Darshana police station at 5 pm on the same day. Later Wednesday, police raided and arrested the defendant Muntaz. The child is in police custody until the writing of this report.
Darshana Police Station OC Sheikh Mahbubur Rahman said the girl’s mother had filed a written complaint against her father-in-law on Wednesday. Muntaj, the grandfather of the accused, son of Khokai Mandal from Harishpur village, has been arrested. Initially, signs of rape were found on the victim’s body. He is currently in police custody. He assured that legal action will be taken on Thursday, including the medical examination of the child victim, and that the accused will be handed over to the court.
