Irfan Selim, the son of Dhaka-6 MP Haji Selim, has been in pre-trial detention at Dhanmondi Police Station for three days in connection with the beating of a naval officer. None of his family members came to the police station to ask. They gave him lunch and dinner from the police station.
Irfan Selim and his bodyguard Zahid have been taken into the custody of the Dhanmondi Police Station for questioning in a case of the beating and attempted murder of a naval officer. The police took the two defendants from the court to the Dhanmondi Police Station at noon on Wednesday (October 26).
Said the night investigation officer and Dhanmondi police inspector (investigation). Ashfaq Rajir Hasan confirmed the matter to the media.
It said that two defendants, Irfan Selim and his bodyguard Zahidul Islam, were arrested and a seven-day pre-trial detention was requested in court. The court granted preventive detention to the two defendants for three days. They were taken to the Dhanmondi police station shortly after noon. Later they were kept in jail.
He added that no family member of Irfan had come to the police station to ask about him. They gave him the food assigned by the police station. Rice curry has been given at noon and in the evening. According to the rules, they will be questioned at night.
Dhanmondi Police Officer in Charge (CO) Ekram Ali Miah spoke about this. He said the government has an allowance for food for defendants in jail. Irfan and her bodyguard received food from that assignment.
It is worth mentioning that on the night of October 25 in Dhanmondi, a naval officer was beaten and threatened with death. The victim, Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan, filed a lawsuit against a total of seven people. Police arrested Mizanur, Haji Selim’s driver, that night. The following day, at noon on October 26, the RAB raided the home of Chan Sardar Dada in Old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar and arrested Irfan on the basis of specific charges.
During the operation, two illegal weapons, alcohol, beer, 36 Wakitki and Wakifki base stations with VAEF devices were seized. Irfan was later sentenced to 18 months in prison by a RAB mobile court for drunkenness and illegal possession of a walkie-talkie. His bodyguard, Jahidul, was sentenced to six months in prison for using Wakitki illegally.
