Helal Uddin committed suicide by poisoning a day after rescuing the hanging body of his wife in the Chauddagram of Comilla.
The incident took place in the village of Kunjshreepur in the Alkara Upazila Union on Wednesday afternoon. Helal Uddin is the son of the late Siddiqur Rahman from that village.
Locals said that on Monday, Chauddagram police recovered the hanging body of Dilwara Akhter Shiuli, the mother of Helal Uddin’s wife and a son, from their home.
Shiuli’s father, Fayez Ahmed, filed a murder case against Helal Uddin at the police station, mentioning the names of four people, including the boss and his brothers and mother-in-law, and two or three other unidentified people.
On Wednesday morning, Helal Uddin fell ill with poison in his own home in the eyes of his relatives. Family members learned of the incident and took him to the Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex. He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
The doctor on duty at the Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex, Abul Hashem Sabuj, said that Helal Uddin was taken to hospital in critical condition. He was sent to the Comilla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment since poison was found on his face and body.
Monir Hossain, deputy officer at the Chauddagram Police Station, said Helal Uddin was the main defendant in the case brought against him for killing his wife Shiuli.
