Land rent or urbanization tax can be paid online. The Minister of Lands, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, launched the program on Wednesday (October 28). The event was inaugurated in the conference room of the Ministry of Lands on Wednesday (October 26).

Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury was the keynote guest at the inaugural function of the online land development tax management software pilot program (Phase I) titled ‘Land Services at Hand’ to build a digital Bangladesh. Present were Secretary of Lands Makshudur Rahman Patwari, Chairman of the Board of Agrarian Reform Yakub Ali Patwari and others.

It was reported in the function that in the first phase, 19 muzas were selected under 9 municipal and union territorial offices under 9 upazilas from 6 districts to test three software related to the case, including the territorial development tax management software.

Of these, 13 mouzas are under 5 municipal land offices, Mirpur, Gudararchar, Noagaon, Rudragaon, Bhatirgaon, Charhogla, Mobarakdi and 16 muzas from Dhakirgaon, Mourangar from Manikganj Sadar, Banamor from Manikganj Sadar. And Satpakia mouza from Jamalpur Sadar.

The four mouzas under the 4 Union Land Offices are Tungipara Mouza under Union Patgati under Tungipara Upazila from Gopalganj, Majidpur and Anandpur Mouza from Union Bagdhania under Savar Upazila from Dhaka, Haildhar and Maugharja from Union Sadar Khaskhama under Anwara Upazila of Chittagong. .

The function reported that rent can be paid online at all land offices in the country in stages. However, as of July 1, 2021, land management across the country will be included in 100% online activities.

At the time, Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said that land rent (land development tax) can be paid from anywhere in the world through the online land development tax system. 36 million people in the country involved in paying the land tax will benefit directly through this service. Land-related harassment of people will be reduced and corruption in land administration will be stopped.

The Land Minister further said that radical changes in land management have been made in the past 10 years due to the dedicated efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Ministry of Lands has won the prestigious ‘United Nations Public Service Award-2020’ as a result of its visionary initiative to build a ‘digital Bangladesh’.

In response to a question about the mouza rate, the land minister said that the matter is primarily under the jurisdiction of the justice ministry. We will raise the issue at the inter-ministerial meeting. “I am hoping to launch an online land development tax system at the national level by July next year,” the minister said.

Land Secretary Makshudur Rahman Patwari said that the training and preparation of officials and employees working in the selected land office has already been completed to carry out the pilot land revenue collection activities digitally.
