The Minister of Lands, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, inaugurated on Wednesday the pilot program (1st phase) of the software in the Secretariat with the theme ‘Land Service in Hand’.
In the first phase, 19 mouza people from nine municipal / union land offices in nine upazilas from eight districts will have the opportunity to pay land tax online in this process.
Patgati Union Land Office of Tungipara Upazila of Gopalganj, Bagdhania Union Land Office of Savar Upazila of Dhaka, Manikganj Municipal Land Office of Manikganj Sadar, Khaskhama Union Land Office of Anwar in Chittagong and Kishoreganj Municipal Land Office of Kishoreganj Sadar are under this experimental software.
The pilot program will also take place at Narayanganj Sadar Union Land Office in Narayanganj Sadar, Jamalpur Municipal Land Office in Jamalpur Sadar, Faridganj Municipal and Union Land Office in Faridganj in Chandpur (the pilot will be conducted only in the municipal part) and Matlab Municipal Land Office in Chandpur. The Agrarian Reform Board under the Ministry of Lands is implementing these activities.
It was reported in the feature that the land development tax of around Tk 607 million rupees is collected of approximately 5 million rupees through 3,462 union land offices in 511 upazila land offices of the country each year. Introducing the new software, the land minister said that now, anytime, anywhere, land development tax information can be viewed and paid. As a result, time and travel costs will be saved.
He also hoped that transparency and accountability would be ensured along with easy collection and management of the land development tax.
He said that “36 million people in the country involved in the land tax will benefit directly from this service. Harassment of people with regard to land will be reduced and corruption in land administration will be stopped ”.
The land minister expects the online land tax payment system to be rolled out across the country in July 2021.
