The victim of child marriage is Nur Nahar (14), an eighth grade student. In order to alleviate the shortage and in hopes of a bright future for the teenager, they pick her up from the reading table and place her on the wedding pedestal. About a month ago, Nur Nahar went to her father-in-law’s house dressed as a bride in a red sari and mehendi. But he had to end his life in just 34 days.
Although the family of the late Nur Nahar’s husband offered to settle the matter through village arbitration, the family of Nur Nahar, an eighth-grade student who was a victim of child marriage, will not get justice if she is not tried in the legal process.
According to the deceased’s family sources, Nur Nahar’s father resides in the village of Nalua Kalabagan in Sakhipur upazila. He is a rickshaw shooter by profession. And my mother is a garment worker. Lal Khan, a resident of Kalia village in the Kauljani union of Nana upazila, brought Nur Nahar to his home when he was four years old. Then get him admitted to school. Nurnahar was in the eighth grade.
On September 20, Nur Nahar married Rajib Khan, a 34-year-old son of Abdur Rashid from Fulki Paschimpara village in Upazila. Nana Lal Khan spent around 30 lakhs during the marriage. This money was provided by his relatives.
However, her marriage was not registered because the girl was not an adult. Nur Nahar started bleeding after having sex when she got married at a young age. Nurnahar and Rajib’s family discussed the matter as the bleeding did not stop.
Later, Rajib’s family treated him with a karibaj from the village. Nur Nahar was admitted to a private hospital in Tangail on October 22 because he did not get any results.
After explaining the clinic to Nur Nahar to his family, husband Rajib and his family were deceived. When his condition deteriorated, Nurnahar’s family admitted him to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital.
At that time, the poor family did not have enough money to care for the girl. In such a situation, when the local villagers gifted around 60,000, his family took Nur Nahar to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Even in such a difficult time for the teenage bride, there was no one beside her in-laws. He finally died on Saturday night (October 24) while receiving treatment in Dhaka. The next day, Sunday (October 25), after an autopsy, he was buried in the cemetery of his grandfather’s house.
Nur Nahar’s grandfather, Lal Khan, said: “I brought my granddaughter Nur Nahar to my home when she was young due to the lack of a daughter-in-law.” I was educating him even with days. We married Nur Nahar thinking about the happiness of the girl, since the boy is expatriate and rich. But in the end I couldn’t save him.
After her death, Nur Nahar’s husband, Rajib, did not go to see her body. He stated that my granddaughter died mainly because of her husband.
On the other hand, family members, including Nur Nahar’s husband Rajib Khan, her father-in-law and her mother-in-law, stated: “The girl already had a tumor in her uterus. Her grandfather married her hiding his illness. Even then we don’t skimp on treatment.
They said: ‘Nur Nahar’s family was informed when the clinic doctor referred him to Dhaka. They came and took him to Dhaka. If they want to go to Dhaka later, they forbid it. Later, when we heard the news of the death, the people in that house treated us very badly.
He even hit Rajiv and threw him out of the house. When we informed the union president about the incident, he asked us to come to his house. So we went home. ‘
Kauljani Union Parishad President Habibur Rahman Chowdhury said: “Members of my husband’s family complained to me that they were not allowed to go to the late Nur Nahar’s home.” I forbade them to go to that house because the setting was not unusual. He also heard that they had been beaten.
Zakir Hossain, assistant professor at the Kalia School of Government, said: “We regularly ask about students.” Suddenly Nur Nahar was secretly married by his family. Nurnahar was a deserving student. His registration number in the eighth class was 2. The news of his death is very sad. And no Noor Nahar should not be a victim of child marriage.
Nur Nahar’s uncle, Lutfar Khan, said the matter had been reported to the police. The case is being prepared.
The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Basail Police Station, Harunur Rashid, said he had not received any written complaints about the incident. However, legal action subject to investigation will be taken after receiving the complaint and autopsy report.
In this regard, said Basail Upazila Nirbahi (UNO) officer Shamsun Nahar Swapna, an eighth grade student died as a result of child marriage. The matter is extremely sad. Child marriage must be eradicated socially, not just by law.
