As protests in the Muslim world and calls for a boycott of French products increase over satirical cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, the hashtag on social media in India shows otherwise.
The hashtags ‘Stand with France’ and ‘We Stand with France’ were seen as the highest trends in the country on Monday and Tuesday. Thousands of Indians have sent hashtag messages on social media expressing their solidarity with France.
The Times of India, India Today and Al Jazeera published this information.
French President Emmanuel Macron has accused French Muslims of separatism. He also commented that Islam is in crisis all over the world.
Macron also incited Islamophobia after a teacher was killed for displaying a cartoon of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the classroom. This has created anger among Muslims around the world. There have been calls for a boycott of French products in Turkey, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Muslims have also demanded the expulsion of the French ambassador from the capital. But on the contrary, India has been seen openly supporting the French president.
BJP MP Prabhas Sahib Singh said in a tweet that tolerance should also be secular. We are with France. The French president has done well.
Earlier this year India received five French-made Raphael fighter jets. The controversial $ 9.4 billion deal was first signed in 2016.
A Twitter user named Palash Mandal said: “I respect Macron, sir. All India is with you. Some have praised Macron, calling him a “protector of humanity.” That’s the decent thing to do and it should end there.
Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Macron needs psychiatric treatment.
He said that when a head of state does not believe in religious freedom and treats millions of people living in his country like that, there is nothing more to say.
And condemning Macron, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said he had deliberately chosen to provoke Muslims.
