The French government has issued a special warning to citizens of several Muslim-majority countries, including Bangladesh, for the unrest in the world over the display of satirical cartoons about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
On Tuesday, the French Foreign Ministry advised French citizens living in Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iraq and Mauritania to be vigilant. The country has also instructed its citizens to avoid any type of protest. Reuters News.
The directive of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises citizens to exercise extreme caution, especially during travel and in places where the tourist or expatriate community is more active.
Attending a ceremony to pay tribute to the slain French teacher Samuel Patti on Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron said the cartoons of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would not stop.
Soon after, Muslims in France accused Macron of trying to suppress their religion and legitimize Islamophobia.
Several Arab countries, including Turkey and Pakistan, have condemned Macron’s controversial comments. Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the French president needed mental health treatment.
The Arab world also called for a boycott of French products. A resolution was passed in the Pakistani parliament calling for the ambassador to be summoned from Paris.
