A deserving student from Dhaka University (DU) committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in Pabna’s Ishwardi upazila while preparing to marry by force.
The incident took place at his home in the village of Babulchara de la upazila on Monday.
The late Rumpa was a fourth-year student in the DU English department. He used to live in Shamsunnahar Hall. Rumpa is the daughter of Farid Uddin Mandal from the village of Babulchara.
According to Rumpa’s classmates, Rumpa committed suicide by hanging himself while preparing to marry someone other than her favorite boy.
Hasnat Abdullah, a classmate of Rumpa, said that Rumpa was very elegant, polite, talented and godly. We had classes with Rumper for four years, but not a single child saw his face. After hearing the news of her suicide, we couldn’t be sure, is this girl really Rumpa? Because nobody saw it.
Hasnat said that a boy’s love story with Rumper had been going on since the seventh class. The boy who had a relationship with her was not a student at Dhaka University, so the Rumpar family did not accept their relationship. This was the conflict in the family.
Perhaps he wanted to marry somewhere else by force. Rumpa could commit suicide for that.
Professor Proctor of the University of Dhaka. AKM Golam Rabbani said the matter is very tragic. We have already informed the corresponding police station. He said such an unfortunate incident is never desirable.
Ishwardi Police Station OC Sheikh Nasir Uddin said that the autopsy was not carried out because it was a suicide and that the relatives had no objections.
