University authorities have temporarily expelled a student from Jagannath University (JU) for allegedly insulting religion on Facebook. A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident. The committee has been asked to report back within the next three weeks.
However, the student filed a general diary at the Pallabi police station on October 23. In it, he mentioned that his Facebook ID is being hacked and comments are being made on various groups and pages.
This information was provided in two separate notifications on the university’s official website on Monday night. The expulsion order said the 2017-2018 academic year student from the university’s zoology department has been temporarily expelled until further notice for insulting religion on Facebook. The decision was made subject to union approval under the powers of the Vice Chancellor of Section 11 (10) of the Jagannath University Act-2005 for hurting religious sentiments. He has been asked to inform the registrar in writing within the next 10 days why he will not be permanently expelled from Jagannath University.
