The RAB has arrested Irfan Selim, the son of former Dhaka (Dhaka-6) MP Haji Selim, along with his bodyguard in a case brought against him for beating a naval officer. RAB spokesman Lt. Col. Ashiq Billah confirmed the information to reporters in front of Haji Selim’s home around 3:30 pm on Monday (October 26). Earlier, the RAB launched a raid on Haji Selim’s home in Old Dhaka around 1:00 pm on Monday.
Lieutenant Colonel Ashiq Billah said: ‘RAB has an executive magistrate in the operation, RAB has an intelligence team. In addition, there are members of RAB-3 and 10.
Noting that the RAB has always conducted operations based on specific allegations, he said: “Our members are still working. The operation is being carried out on the basis of some recent events.
When asked if the operation was carried out due to the beating of a naval officer, he did not respond directly.
Haji Selim’s son and his accomplices were allegedly beaten by a naval officer at Kalabagan in the capital on Sunday night (October 25). Navy Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan filed a case against them Monday morning for attempted assassination. Haji Selim’s son, Irfan Selim, his bodyguard Mohammad Zahid, the Medina AB Group protocol officer Siddique Dipu and the driver Mizanur Rahman were named in the case statement. Two or three more unidentified people have been charged.
Wasif Ahmed alleged in the affidavit that he was returning home to Mohammadpur by motorcycle on Sunday (October 25) after buying books in Nilkhet. He was accompanied by his wife. A car pushed his motorcycle from behind in front of Labaid Hospital. Wasif Ahmed wanted to know the reason why he stopped the motorcycle and hit the glass of the car. Then a man came out and abused him. They drove to Kalabagan. Wasif Ahmed also followed them on a motorcycle. When the car stopped at the Kalabagan bus stop, Wasif stood in front of the car with her motorcycle. Then three or four people got out of the car and said, ‘I’m going to take out your navy / army, your lieutenant / captain. I’ll kill you today ‘- he began to beat her. Later the traffic police arrived and rescued him and the attackers fled.
Pedestrians videotaped the scene, which instantly went viral. Dhanmondi police arrived and took the car to the police station from the scene.
