Jonaki Akhter, 22, a mother of two, died after fleeing with her boyfriend in Baniachang upazila de Habiganj. Boyfriend Anik Pandey was caught by the mob while trying to hide his girlfriend’s body. He was later handed over to the police.
On Saturday afternoon, locals arrested Anik Pandey and handed him over to the police as he left Jonaki Akter’s body on the Baniachang-Habiganj road.
According to the police, Jonaki Akter, a housewife from the village of Raghuchudhuripara from the same upazila, met Anik Pandey (32) from the village of Baniachang upazila in Kastgarh on social media a few months ago. During the introduction, Anik Pandey introduced himself to Jonaki when he was a young Muslim. After meeting, Jonaki was talking to Anik Pandey on his mobile and Facebook every day. Jonaki used to tell Anik about the confusion in his worldly life. In this, Anik used to tempt him to keep him in the state of bliss. After talking like this, a deep love relationship developed between them. At one point, Anik asked Jonaki to come to his workplace in Netrokona.

According to the police, 20-25 days ago, Jonaki fled to Netrokona with his three-year-old daughter Tanvi. After going there, talking to Anik, Jonaki found out that Anik is Hindu. Anik persuaded Jonaki to show his husband and wife to the people by wearing vermilion on his forehead and seashells in hand and took her home as his wife. While he was at Anik’s house, Jonaki’s family members called him repeatedly. But Jonaki wasn’t receiving her calls. The day the firefly went to Anik’s house, Anik wanted to have an illicit affair with him. But knowing the Hindu, Jonaki did not agree to have sexual relations with him. This caused a fight between the two. Anik began to torture him. Jonaki died last Friday night after being tortured. Shortly after Jonaki’s death, Anik left Netrokona for Baniachang in an ambulance to retrieve his body. On Saturday afternoon, locals reached the Shuntaki area of the Habiganj-Baniachang highway and threw the body into the water. At one point, Anik tried to escape. But he could not escape. At that time people ran and arrested him. When the Baniachang Police Station was informed, the police rushed to the scene. Then the locals handed Anik Pandey over to the police.
According to the police, during preliminary questioning, Anik confessed his love affair with her and Jonaki’s elopement. However, he denied killing Jonaki.
Anik told police that he came home from his workplace on Friday night to find Jonaki’s hanging body. Later he went home with the body. Think about the road. Bringing the body home could be dangerous, so Jonaki tried to flee to hide the body.
Baniachang Police Officer-in-Charge (CO), Mohammad Emran Hossain, said that the mob arrested Anik Pandey and handed him over to the police. Tanvi, a three-year-old son of Jonaki, was rescued at the time. After her arrest, Anik told the police about her affair with Jonaki. However, Anik claimed that Jonaki had committed suicide by hanging himself.
The OC said: “We are investigating the matter. The investigation will determine whether Jonaki was killed or committed suicide.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Baniachang Circle) Sheikh Mohammad. Selim said: ‘Initially, signs of injuries were found on the housewife’s neck. An autopsy report will reveal how he died. We have sent his body to the morgue of Sadar Modern Hospital in Habiganj District for autopsy.
