He said that Bangabandhu used to be a journalist for the weekly Millat and Ittehad before independence and for the newspaper Ittefa after independence and also started a newspaper for the Awami League called New Day.
Mentioning that Bangabandhu also published the weekly Bangla Bani, Bangabandhu’s daughter said: ‘He (Bangabandhu) always had a relationship with journalism. From there, I can affirm that as the son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib, I myself am a member of the family of journalists.

Sheikh Hasina said: “After independence, there was a situation where the newspaper owners found it difficult to run these newspapers. The Prime Minister said that the government has taken these trainings so that journalism as a profession can be raised to a higher status and dignity. So that it is possible to keep up with the world.

Referring to the torture of journalists in the past, he said: “If there had been a case earlier, the journalists would have been arrested in a hurry.” But even then we have modified the penal code. So that journalists do not have to suffer harassment.
