At least 20 people, including a senior naval police officer, were injured in an attack by fishermen while campaigning to conserve the hilsa in Chandpur. The incident took place at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Laxmirchar area of the Durgamchar Rajrajeshwar Union of Padma-Meghna in Chandpur. It is known that since the early hours of Sunday night, helicopters of the Bangladesh Air Force launched air and naval operations in various areas of the Padma and Meghna rivers in Chandpur. Around 11 am, a naval police convoy spotted several fishing boats in a canal in Laxmirchar in the Rajrajeshwar union of Sadar upazila and went to carry out an operation. At that time, organized fishermen and their families attacked the naval police with local weapons. At least 20 policemen were injured.
