Dhaka: Ziaur Rahman, a professor in the Department of Criminology at Dhaka University, has been charged under the Digital Security Act for commenting on a private television program “Assalamu Walaikum” and “Allah Hafez” as a culture of militancy.
Muhammad Mahbub Alam, editor of the monthly Al Bayyinat and Al Ihsan daily, and Imrul Hasan, another lawyer, brought another case in the court of the Bangladesh Cyber Court judge Assam Jaglul Hossain on Sunday (October 25).
Lawyer Imrul Hasan said the court had reserved the case for two orders after taking the plaintiff’s statement.
The case alleges that in a recent talk show titled ‘Conclusion’ on DBC News television channel titled ‘Misunderstanding of Religion’, it is abhorrent and reprehensible for Muslims to say ‘Assalamu Walaikum’ and ‘Allah Hafez’ in pure pronunciation. . He associated all this with militancy.
Such comments by the defendants have damaged Muslim religious values.
For this reason, Bayyinat’s monthly editor filed a complaint against this DU professor in articles 26 and 29 of the 2016 Digital Security Law. On the other hand, in the case of lawyer Imrul Hasan, charges have been filed under Articles 25 and 26 of the same law.
